Accred torch

What’s the elevator pitch for your startup?

Sport on Spec celebrates the diversity of recognised sports in the UK and the excitement of watching top-class local events in the flesh. Whether mainstream spectator sports such as rugby, football and cricket, or sports with a lower profile such as speedway, boxing and netball, if an event is inspirational and entertaining to watch we cover it.

Sport on Spec is unique as for the first time an A to Z of weekly sporting events are promoted online on a level playing field and ticket information (always at face value or better) is available from one easily accessible source. Sport on Spec ensures that you will never again miss a sporting event you enjoy: and also discover lots more you never knew you did!

What were you doing before you launched your startup?

Taking some time out to attend and absorb a year of live sport that included the London 2012 Olympics.

What’s your biggest ‘hindsight’ moment?

There’s a lot of justified excitement and great advice to be had around the current UK #tech scene. But equally there’s a fair amount of unhelpful hype and conflicting advice that it’s important not to get caught up in. Stay calm, digest, filter and focus = the name of the game!

What will 2014 bring?

Fruitful partnerships and investment courtesy of a crowdfunding campaign are two of our main aims.

1 piece of advice for someone starting a business in the sector?

Know your subject. Bluffers in sport/recreation are alarmingly easy to spot.

Convince someone to use your product/service in under 50 words.

There’s a world of undiscovered, entertaining, inspirational and great value sporting delights out there – just waiting to be enjoyed with friends and family. A life lived without experiencing them is all the poorer for it. Not convinced? Talk to me!

What’s your favourite startup in the sector (not including your own)?

OpenPlan.

What’s your favourite London restaurant?

Le Caprice – although it’s been a while thanks to my bootstrapping slush fund budget.
