We’ll enjoy dinner, drinks & a chance to meet fellow entrepreneurs and professionals, followed by an after-dinner talk and informal Q&A with Ryan Kohn, co-founder of Propercorn, to hear how he launched a super brand in such a short space of time, and learn about his top tips for start-up success in the food sector.

Since launching in October 2011 Propercorn, the popcorn that is delicious and guilt free has caused quite a storm. Anna Wintour has been spotted eating it on the front row at London's Fashion week, it is stocked all over the UK, from Waitrose and Leon to Harvey Nichols and Selfridges and sells around 2 million packets a month.

Ryan, together with co-founder Cassandra Stavrou, launched the company at the height of the recession and against some huge competition, but has made it a resounding success. They have built an incredible team around them, full of bright young minds with bags of enthusiasm and are beginning to export too into other countries in Europe.

During my studies at Leeds University, I set up a student events business in my spare time, which grew dramatically, to the point where I eventually had to leave university at the end of my second year in order to manage it full time. My business was a large success and included over 400 employees in 11 different cities across the UK. I worked on a number of projects on behalf of Bukowski PR agency, Norwich Union, Virgin Megastores, Music Of Black Origin (MOBO), Novus Leisure, Luminar PLC and many more.

After 4 years, building the business into one of the largest student Events Company’s in the UK, I decided that it was time to move on and sold my share in the company.

In September 2007, I teamed up with an existing interior design and build company, “Living in Space”. They share my forward thinking ideas based around sustainable (environmentally friendly) developments and gave me the freedom to build the development side of the business. We recently completed the refurbishment of Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy’s new home in Central London.

I have also set up a large charity campaign called London For London, which united the whole of London to raise funds and awareness for charities that focus on violence amongst young people within the Capital. We had the likes of ITN, Capital Radio, TimeOut and all the London papers on board as well as HRH Prince William and the London Mayor Boris Johnson.

Finally, along with my good friend Cassandra, I launched PROPERCORN in October 2011. The business has since blossomed into one of the UK’s most exciting food brands (we think so) and are now selling over two million bags a month. We have built an incredible team around us full of bright young minds with bags of enthusiasm and are beginning to export too into other countries in Europe.
