Startup Spotlight on Daniel van Binsbergen, Co-founder of Lexoo
Daniel is attending tonight’s Legal Innovation dinner where businesses in the space come together to share ideas, latest innovations and find ways to collaborate. We wanted to find out more about him and his startup Lexoo.
What’s the elevator pitch for your startup?
Lexoo (www.lexoo.co.uk) enables startups and other businesses to easily compare and receive multiple quotes from specialised solicitors. All solicitors are prescreened and vetted by us, and they know they are competing for your business, so they will always offer their best price.
What were you doing before you launched your startup?
I worked as a lawyer for a large law firm.
If you have co-founders, where did you meet them?
I met my co-founder Chris O’Sullivan through an introduction by one of our investors (Forward Partners).
What’s your biggest ‘hindsight’ moment?
I probably spent too much time planning out what I wanted to create instead of just immediately engaging with the market. So I feel I could’ve moved quicker had I e.g. just started connecting start-ups to the right solicitors using a spreadsheet before building any product.
What will 2014 bring?
Growth! We’ve validated that we’ve built something that people find really useful, now we’re focussing on making more people aware of www.lexoo.co.uk.
1 piece of advice for someone starting a business in the the sector
Persevere! The legal sector can seem slow and sluggish, and very hesitant to change (which incidentally also makes the opportunity very large). But there is a growing group of lawyers who realise the legal market is lagging behind and are actually quite willing to participate in something new!
Convince someone to use your product/service in under 50 words.
