Event Startups #MeetandEat
Last night we brought the event startups industry together over dinner at The Green, Clerkenwell. With our all encompassing guestlist, we could have worked together on a great event! We had organisers & hosts, companies to list and promote, facility providers for the event, people to analyse all the data surrounding the event and of course, someone to blog about it. Thank you to everyone that was part of it, especially eventmama who travelled all the way from Dublin and the EventSneaker boys (who are probably still out partying) from Middlesborough who changed their travel plans to join us.
The dinner was sponsored by Rackspace and evvnt. Richard Green, CEO and founder of evvnt was our after-dinner speaker. He shared his experiences with evvnt. For him, one of the key points was taking office space; not one for working out of coffee shops, the space provided focus and a space for him and his team to grow into. One of his earliest and most valuable hires was marketing, which went against the view of his investors. What is now a tech business, with large ongoing investment in technology, started out as a google doc! Revenues were key from day 1 and he has always operated a break-even business. He talked about just “knowing” his idea was a business – it wasn’t based on numbers, it was when he started to receive inbound enquiries and when people wanted to work for him. Richard has raised investment for evvnt and it is now a global business, with the newest office opening in Berlin 2 weeks ago. Richard was an honest and relaxed speaker and it was clear that he knew the events industry inside out. It was great to have him join us and share his journey.
Here are some photos from the evening for you to enjoy.
Our upcoming industry dinners include music startups, food startups and sharing economy startups, so please get in touch if you work in these industries and would like an invite.
