What’s the elevator pitch for your startup?

Wigwamm is a real-time auction for rental property, helping universities provide students with a transparent way to find accommodation.

What were you doing before you launched your startup?

I have overseen a family property management business since 2000, and thought it was absurd that finding property on the internet was still restricted to stale classified listings. I was fed up of people hearing “Sorry, that property has just gone…” and wanted to bring transactions online, so people looking for a home would demand more than dumb classified listings for property.

What’s your biggest ‘hindsight’ moment?

In hindsight, I would have waited until I found a technical co-founder to share this long journey with me.

What will 2014 bring?

This year (2014) we hope to help tenants and landlords have a glimpse of the future with the first transparent auction for rental property online.

1 piece of advice for someone starting a business in the sector?

Property (and business in general) is about people; so find people who will advocate for you and want your product, before building anything.

Convince someone to use your product/service in under 50 words.

Lettings Agency owners make money from landlords, yet spend 95% of their time with tenants. With Wigwamm’s Monday night auction, you get the best price, certainty of letting on that day, and can focus all your time on finding more landlords. Landlords = money; tenants = cost.

What’s your favourite startup in the sector (not including your own)?

My favourite property tech start-up is FixFlo. It takes care of communicating with tenants and contractors, which means I can manage property from the beach.

What’s your favourite London restaurant?

The best restaurant in London is Ram’s on Kenton Road (Northwick Park or Kenton tube stations)

WigwannPleasure to meet you Rayhan, we hope to see you at the dinner table again soon! Check out our other upcoming dinners.
