Aneisha & Jack joined TableCrowd earlier this summer and have joined us for dinner several times in a few short months. The start of their business story may have been a smelly one but Scrumbles is one dog & cat food brand to watch! After the recent dinner with Rover.com, we asked Aneisha to tell us more…
 

Explain your business in one sentence!

Scrumbles is a value-led gut-friendly food company for cats and dogs committed to doing what’s right by the animals we serve.

 

What were you doing before you launched your business?

I’ve always worked in consumer goods/food and drink at places like L’Oréal, P&G and Bear Nibbles. Most recently I was the general manager at a tea start-up, We Are Tea which was a great initiation into the life of a start-up.

 

If you have business partners, where did you meet them?

My business partner is my husband, we’re both equally passionate about pets and the food they eat so we make a great team. We met at University 13 years ago – time flies!

 

What’s your biggest ‘hindsight’ moment?

Looking back I wish I’d taken the leap to do it sooner. It’s too easy to put things off and say we’ll do it sometime in the future. Sometimes you’ve just got to go for it.

 

What will the next year bring?

Next year will see Scrumbles begin to scale. We’ll take the leap from home office to proper premises and we’ve got a ton of innovation that we can’t wait to bring to market.

 

Give us 1 piece of advice for someone starting a business in your sector?

Do your homework. There is plenty of information out there available on every market if you have the motivation to get stuck in and it will pay dividends in the long run. Gut feel and intuition are great, but nothing beats real evidence-based insights.

If you’re concerned about your pet’s gut health, worried about what goes into their food or gone blurry-eyed trying to decipher an ingredient list, we’ve got you covered. Scrumbles provides naturally nutritious, tasty food for cats and dogs that is ethically made here in the UK.

 

What’s your favourite business in your sector – not including your own!

I love Slurps, a fantastic new brand of dog drinks and supplements. They have a great product, a fun brand and an inspiring founder.

 

Tell us about your TableCrowd experiences!

TableCrowd was recommended to us by another founder when we mentioned we were considering raising money. We didn’t know what to expect but signed up to a handful of events and had a blast. We met countless other business owners across a whole spectrum of industries which has been a fascinating learning experience. It’s been a platform to form some great relationships with both individuals and other brands. We’ve been able to compare notes and share connections that undoubtedly will help us grow our business. Not to mention having made some good friends.

 

What’s your favourite London restaurant?

That’s easy – Made of Dough in Peckham– best pizza in town, no, the world!
